Each year Watermark, a Silicon Valley-based nonprofit with the mission of fostering community amongst executive women, awards five outstanding women who have risen to the top of their fields in the following categories: corporate, nonprofit, entrepreneur, professional services, and emerging leader. This year's winners are no exception. Each has demonstrated innovation and excellence in a variety of industries. On November 17, a celebration in their honor will take place at the Hyatt, San Francisco Airport. SV is proud to be a sponsor of the event and to highlight the accomplishments of these impressive executives.

Julie Clugage's life changed during a trip to Guatemala. Clugage grew up in Santa Cruz. The bright teen earned a spot at Dartmouth and an interest in international affairs started to grow. Post college, she seized the opportunity to teach Mayan youth in rural Guatemala. Volunteering through a Christian Brothers of LaSalle program, Clugage set off for Central America in 1992 and stayed for two and a half years. The impact of that experience has reverberated throughout Clugage's career. "I thought how smart these children were," she says. "I was working with children who had nothing in terms of educational resources but desire. And I realized, if we give them tools and opportunity, they can succeed."
