Build Change is an international non-profit social enterprise that designs disaster-resistant houses and schools and trains builders, homeowners, engineers, and government officials to build them. During the next 10 years, Build Change will work to empower 10 million people in Haiti, Columbia, Guatemala, The Philippines, Indonesia, and Nepal to live and learn in safer homes and schools by retrofitting structures before natural disasters occur.
Volunteers from Autodesk will work in close partnership with Team4Tech and Build Change to deliver a series of technology and design innovation workshops in Colombia from April 22 – May 5, 2018 for Build Change staff. The workshops will include user training in Autodesk software in order to help Build Change staff streamline the retrofitting process of Colombian houses. Autodesk volunteers will help Build Change staff to identify and implement appropriate software to improve the process of collecting and importing field data into the existing retrofit tools. In addition, Autodesk volunteers will help Build Change staff to design community outreach programs with the goal of building ongoing partnerships with local stakeholders.
The expected output of these work streams is the identification of further areas of learning, an improved workflow for collecting and importing field data, and an increased ability of Build Change staff to use Autodesk software to implement housing retrofits in emerging nations at scale.
